ABOUT  US

Our  love for books, our great respect for the written word and our consciousness of how fundamental books are in the formation of
all individuals in any  society,  these were the main reasons why we decided to work as literary agents.

We have a staff of six working very close, there is family relationship here but nepotism plays no role among the ones involved, since
we feel so much inspired and deeply committed  with our projects.

Still, we have no illusions about what it really means to properly play these roles. We don't belong to the old traditional
school of intelectuals which still concentrates literature on the elite, we don´t carry traditional famous authors  and we are not in the
"Harry Potter's league" (with all our respect for Ms. Rowling's books and certainly we wouldn't mind representing her).

Thus,  many times,  we feel ourselves  been driven onwards only by our inner force, some genuine idealistic compromise  and of
course, lots and  lots  of hard work and good will, which  certainly don't pay our bills but so far they have been compensating all our
"deficiencies".

Perhaps this is also why we keep encoraging, among other possibilities, riskier, bolder, non-commercial literary options which
dare to promote  freedom to any kind of oppression. Furthermore, we are proud to contribute with literary works that can provide
us with critical eyes, so to help the elite (with whom we should identify ourselves), to recognize and take some of the responsabilities
of the incoherencies, conflicts, weaknesses and all the complexities  present amongst the oppressed and the very poor in our society.

OUR AGENTS / COLLABORATORS:

 Peter-Michael

German by nationality he has been  in the book business for over 25 years, since his first job experience as a bookseller still in Germany. In Brazil  the position has taught him not just the knowledge about the book business but also some good experience as an executive manager by coping with the economic crisis of the 80's and the knowledge and experience when working close with publishers.
Some years later, after some good experience with  specialized RPG books and game shops, he decided to go back to Germany but he found it so difficult to re-adjust himself and the winter so "unbearably cold". Back again he started representing some German companies from different business backgrounds. By this time his wife was already working as an agent but she was not really satisfied. With her partner and close friend Anke, they both opened their own agency. They invited  Peter-Michael to join in specially because he could be a great help dealing with the German publishing market that still has not been properly introduced into the Brazil. He gave it a try and it  worked wonderfully. He stayed.
(Mr. Fäustle  has a degree in business administration from the "Fachhochschule" (Nürnberg) and he brings into our agency an invaluable history of contacts and great  knowledge of the publishing world.)

Besides her love for books and being a writer, she carries a diversity of  interests and background. She is also German and  Ligia's close  friend and confident. She came to Brazil as a foreign exchange student but never really went back. Later she got involved with some volunteer work by collecting used books in order to buid up libraries inside the " shanty towns" or in very poor communities.  She had worked as a translator and had developed several literary projects as a "ghostwriter". She has a degree in Communications from the University of Berlin.

           Ligia

I still can remember my first Frankfurt event and by the time  I was only twenty-three. It was my first trip to the "old continent" but it seemed that I could recognize every corner, a sense of familiarity through a continuous stream of mental notes and pieces of remembrances, some  extracted from the books I've read before . Thrilled and at the same time astonished , in order to make me feel "at home", I would go to the "Brazilian Stand".  In one of these occasions I saw this lady, who seemed to be important, but she carried a quality of importance of a greater relevance which was so inspiring, maybe because I could detect the significance of her work, in which I could use the great power of the written words,  with its continuous  subliminar effects and ability to touch, instigate, interfere and also (why not), transform? Perhaps I am now sounding too "self-righteous". Still,  what is one of the main purpose of the written words if not reach other people's minds and souls?   Anyhow,  later on I found the lady was a literary agent..."

(Ligia has a degree in "Library Information Studies" from the University of Sao Paulo, had been a bookseller for many years and worked in different Brazilian publishing houses, beginning at "Librerias-Editora ABC", then as a sales representative (Abril Cultural),sales manager "Forbidden Planet" game-shops,  as a promotion manager (Brasiliense), as a free-lancer in an export/import Brazil-Germany consolidation project (Melhoramentos).

    Hector

He is quiet, very quiet but whenever daring expressing himself with oral or written words or even when he plays some blues with his guitar;  he really compensates his usual muteness.
Also a "bookworm", he came into the agency right in a period in which we found ourselves completely overflowed by so much work, and he was immediately capable to take all his tasks with a serene and professional posture.
Born from  German/Brazilian  parents, he speaks and writes perfect German and eventually we shall loose his companionship  since he is planning to go back to Karlsruhe University to conclude his studies. Still, in the meantime, so good to have someone like Hector working with us...

Maria Aparecida

We feel so lucky to have someone like Cida working with us.
She is calm, serene and she looks so small and fragile,  that it is hard to believe how strong and vigorous her body can be, when she forces herself to work until 2 o'clock in the morning because  she must give to an author the evaluation which has been expected for so long.
(Cida earned her degree in "History Studies" from PUC and FMU, had also been a bookseller and a teacher in a secondary  school.)

Samira

She is powerfully active, energetic, talkative. She radiates that extra portion of energy when we mostly need it, which  helps us to go through those difficult days.

She loves controversial matters and she is very good with foreign languages. She is back to University (Pedagogy), and is now working only part-time and she takes care of our printing services department.
