Being conscious of the great potencial of the Brazilian literature, we are introducing Brazilian titles into the foreign publishing market.

We must admit that it has been quite a difficult task since we all know that what is considered `good literature`is  still being concentrated on the American/English language titles.  However we have found a few foreign publishers that are conscious that literature has no frontiers, they want to promote  cultural diversities  and they take these procedures as an efficient tool in order to bring a better understanding and mutual respect between people and nations.

Also,  whenever speaking about Brazilian literature, we must be aware that the  majority of the international publishers still ask for titles focused in what Brazil is popularly well known for; like its football, carnaval, its people` spontaneity, etc... Certainly this `stereotyped` or conventional way of viewing Brazil may give a wrong idea of Brazil's real identity. 

Once a German editor asked - `... why should any German reader goes for a piece of  Brazilian fiction in which all its characters do act as Germans?`... -People living here  do want to know about carnival, football, exotic Brazilian places and what would be a better way to introduce these topics if not through a well written piece of Brazilian literature done by a  genuine Brazilian writer?..." 

Still we have also found the opposite argument when a title was simply rejected because it was considered too Brazilian ... Very difficult to understand the majority of foreign editors still judging a title only through its thematic focus rather than an open-minded approach of its literary contents as a whole. Even more disappointing when we finally have a book being accepted but its translation been  made by a professional who lacks that portion of sensitiveness so desirable for such a task and with scarse knowledge of the day-to-day Brazilian life or its cultural, social and political background.

Anyhow, having in mind that literature may be defined as an expression of art, with the use of creative written words that can mobilize our senses; let's hope that the genuine human context and artistc value behind the Brazilian literature can be someday recognized and properly revealed  with all its intrinsic beauty.
